I have almost the exact same problem that moodyyork with the sedan has. Left my house this morning, drove about 2 miles with no problem. Then car seemed to just quit, engine just started racing up then trans would catch up for a few feet then race again until it would go no farther.
Turned car off and sat for a few minutes then back on and car seemed to do alright for about 50 yards, then she quit for good.
It is a 1998 Sebring Vert 2.5 that has run very good since I bought her about 8 or 9 years ago. Just had the cluster repaired and installed about 5 days ago. Could that have anything to do with the trans?? Im baffeled, from great to nothing at the snap of your finger.
Any one have any clues??
Thanks,
tunicariverrat

I am sure you checked your fluid levels?

Does the car work in reverse?

I was told by my trans guy that the electronics are so good on this transmission that it will use every bit of the clutch material on the plates till there is nothing left. Then your trans is done.

Then I agree with Terry. Sounds like it's life is over.

Do you think the shift solenoid assembly could be at fault??

Is your CEL light on in the dash when the car is running.
